I want a website. How do I get started?

What is a domain name? Do I need one?
A domain name is an extremely important component to the success of your website. A domain name such as www.yourcompany.com provides an easy way for visitors to find your site. However, a domain name that has vital keywords for your products or services can be of special importance when it comes to helping search engines to find you website
Will you register a domain name for me?
Canz Design will be happy register a domain name for you. However we don’t recommend this, we suggest that website owners have full control over their domain names and not register through a third party.
How do I choose a domain name?
Domain names are available on a first-come, first-serve basis; so it is advisable that you search for the domain name you would like, as sometimes it takes a while to find one that's available and suits your needs. We can recommend domain registrars and advise you on the registration process upon request.
A TLD (Top Level Domain) like .com, .net or .org will cost less than $10 a year, whereas country specific domain names (ccTLD= country code top-level domain) often cost more EG: A .co.nz cost around $40 a year.
Are there any hints for buying a domain name?
It is best to select a name that is easy to remember and easy to spell; and yes, it is possible (and a good idea) to buy more than one domain name. If you purchase more than one domain name and decide to host with Canz Design there will be no additional charge for parking up to 3 domain names on top of your main name. How much will I spend to get a website?
This is an impossible question to answer, we liken the cost of a website to the cost of a house; it just depends on what you want the website to do and how much work you are willing to put into it.
Do you offer hosting to your clients?
Yes, we offer hosting to our clients. We try to make the whole experience of getting online as painless as possible. If you would prefer to host with someone else we can suggest a very reliable alternative upon request.
I already have a website I would like redesigned, can I transfer the hosting to Canz?
Most definitely! We’d be more than happy to take care of this process; just tell us your domain name and current host we'll take care of everything.
How do I get my materials ready to put online?
Canz Design will work with whatever you have, electronic files, printed materials, digital pictures, logo, traditional photos, etc. We can work with all formats of artwork or photography and will design or redesign graphics as required.
I don’t have written content for my pages; do I have to hire someone else to do this?
At Canz design we have a content writer on staff that can write Search Engine Friendly webpage content for almost any business. If you have a business that is out of her range of expertise, she will write asking you a few pertinent questions and you will be amazed at the quality of her writing.
What are your graphic design fees?
There is no fixed rate for graphic design work; our fees are dependent upon the amount of information and specific concept you have in mind. Remember, the more detailed your request the less work it is getting you exactly what you want. As a general rule of thumb our design fees range from $45 - $75 an hour.
What is the design process like?
Once your objectives are clarified, Canz Design will develop layouts based on your specific requests. We will work closely with you during this phase until we are confident the design is right for your needs before we begin the process developing your website. Once the general design is finalized, we will make a special online viewing area for you to review the project while it is under development.
Can we view the graphics before we pay you?
No, our time is valuable and we request a deposit before commencing work on any project. We require a deposit for all design and development projects which is non-refundable although it will be applied to your completed project so it isn’t an additional or hidden cost. Concept development is an important part of the design process and we cannot ask our designers to work without being paid.
How long before my site goes live?
Prior to starting work, Canz Design will outline your project from start to completion; giving you a full outline of the process and the expected timeframe each step will take. As a general rule most sites can be finished in 2-4 weeks after we receive your materials depending of course on the complexity of your project. Completion date projections are dependent upon your response to our requests for relevant information and design concept approval.
I want to distribute an email newsletter. Can you help with that?
Canz Design has an ad-on program we recommend to clients, and we will work with you to develop the best layout and suggest content for your newsletter. Although the program takes care of everything, we are happy to manage the entire email newsletter process, just send us the content, and we’ll take care of everything.
I already have a website, but it's not doing much for my business. What do you suggest?
Canz Design prides itself in only providing search engine friendly websites; We will consult with you after evaluating your site (or sites) and make recommendations based upon your goals and your websites current performance.
How can I keep my site up-to-date?
As part of our commitment to building great web sites, Canz Design SEO department offers an ongoing monthly contract that assures you of up to date web content and fresh, relevant pages.
You are also welcome to contact us at anytime if you have large updates for your website that your staff may not feel confident in making. A CMS (Content Management System) is an excellent way to manage a site and keep the content fresh and updated; Canz CMS systems are SEO friendly and very easy to use.
Changes made by us are often made within a couple of days of receiving and clarifying the request. Canz Design prefers to keep a limited number of satisfied customers rather than numerous clients, who wait weeks for their designers to find time for them.

Yes, we understand the challenges of start-up businesses, so just provide us with 3 credit references, and we’ll be happy to arrange a payment plan for your entire project.
